Life Reflections/Obituary

On November 18, 1946, a beautiful baby girl was born to Cyril Philip and Leticia John in the parish of St. John's on the small island of Grenada.  She was the last of 5 children (two of whom survived to adulthood). She grew to be a precocious and loving child who idolized her big brother Raphael and was affectionally known as Chriso by her family and friends.  In 1981 she embarked on an unknown journey to the United States to make a better life for her family.  There she worked hard and did all she could with her limited resources to provide for her children until they eventually joined her in the United States.

On August 8, 2021, she exited this life peacefully at her home in Miami, Florida at the age of 74 surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with sickle cell disease.

She was a warrior with a big and generous heart. She had many friends and lived a full and vibrant life, full of joy, despite her illness. She was well known in her hometown as one who was young at heart and naturally bonded with people of all ages and was especially fond of lively political debates. Everyone she met found her fascinating especially her grandchildren for whom she was a shoulder to lean on, a source of inspiration and could do no wrong. She doted on them, loved and cherished them with a fierce passion. She will forever live in their hearts.

She was predeceased in death by her parents Cyril Philip and Leticia John and her brother Raphael (Alston) John. She is survived by her husband , Roxton Gittens, 7 children : Michael, Wendy, Allana (Salim), Valma, Perry (Kizzy), Benta and Roxanne, 16 grandchildren : (Kellon, Sitembile, Terrisa, Solomon, Rozim, Qualiek, Lyndrew, Amani, Lincoln, Rafael, Anisa, Leishawn, Cheyenne, Brian, Lindsay and Camlyn; her brother Urlan and her sisters : Allsaints and Richlyn; and many friends and relatives.
