Vernon L. Martin was born in Proving Grounds, Maryland to Horace and Clara Martin on November 8, 1958. He is the third of five children. His siblings are Letitia, Horace Jr. (deceased), Stephen and Gary.

Loving grandfather, proud dad, amazing son, caring brother, funny uncle and loyal friend were just a few of his many traits. Vernon would tell us that he learned the basic principles of life from his parents and that faith guided his path. He would also acknowledge lessons learned from his grandparents, aunts and uncles.

As a young man Vernon was fun loving, inquisitive, ambitious and a social butterfly. As a teenager he excelled as a percussionist performing with the Floridian Drum and Bugle Corps, Miami Carol Marching Band and later the Bethune Cookman College Marching Band.

Early in life Vernon would dabble in politics as a Student Government President and Black Student Union President in college. He attended Bethune Cookman, Miami Dade Jr College and eventually earned his Bachelor of Arts from Trinity International University.

On December 31, 1983 Vernon married Betty Law. Together they raised 4 children Allen, LaSura (Shawn), Kenya and Hope. They opened a Cleaning Business and a Restaurant. On March 13, 2009, God called his beloved Betty home. A few years later, Vernon rediscovered love with Maureen and her son Uju and they became family.

Driven by his passion to help people, Vernon pursued his dream to positively impact people's lives through counseling. He was a natural because of is innate ability to connect with people. Vernon worked for 29 years helping hundreds overcome challenges with Eating Disorders, Chemical Dependency, Family Disfunction, Suicide Ideation and countless other concerns. Vernon believed his success was reflective of God's grace giving him the ability to motivate, inspire and communicate caring to people.

Vernon was a gentle selfless person who loved to have fun, always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He lived life to the fullest.

On February 11, 2021 Vernon went home to be with the Lord. We are comforted that his rest was peaceful albeit, too soon. We celebrate him today and rejoice in knowing he is safe in God's hands. We do not say good-bye because he remains always in our hearts.

Vernon is preceded in death by his wife Betty Martin and brother Horace Martin Jr.
