Val Cormelelo Mayes Sr., affectionately known as "Do Dat" by his closest friends passed away May 13, 2022, at the age of fifty-five.

He was born on October 19 ^th , 1966, to Juanita and Joseph Mayes. He was raised in Myrtle Grove, where he attended Myrtle Grove Elementary, Parkway Junior High, and Carol City Senior High schools.

He was a man of many talents, and he had the gift of gab. He was an exceptional artist, but it was his love and passion of sports that made him one of the greatest football coaches to ever grace the field at Bunche Park Optimist Football Club. It was in this capacity where he made his biggest influences. Where he encountered young men whom he helped develop skills that allowed them to reach their full potential in college and in the NFL. He was a stranger to no one, and always had a helping hand to give.

He leaves to mourn: his mother, Juanita Richardson, five children: Valencia (Jean), Val Jr., Alexis, Jamaal (Sizis), and Antonio. Six grandchildren: Ari, Ava, Denim, JaMaya, Jamaal Jr and Faith. One sister: Tina (Issac), Four brothers: Leo Sr. (Tara), Vermont (Lynn), Albert Sr. (Ursula), Joseph Jr. (Ebony). Two aunts: Dorothy McClam, and Willa Mae Chisolm. Two uncles: Timothy Mayes, and Kareem Jones. Eight nieces: Ernisha (Anthony) Sarah, Shekinah, Isabella, Quinshay, Unique, Stephanie, and Ashley. Eleven nephews: Tayon, Leo Jr., Breon, Jeremiah, Malakai, Ryan, Lenzo, Daniel, Issac, Marcus, and Albert. Two great nieces: Lashon and Malani. five great nephews: Aj, and Amarion, Mason, Levi, and Ace. Two God Brothers Travis McNichols, and Lawrence Chambers. One God sister Juanita, God daughter Amber, and a host of other relative and friends.
