Obituary

Ms. Shirley Ann Ashley, affectionately referred to as "Shirlann,"was born in Rural, Georgia on June 8, 1953, to the late Alice Ashley Phillips and Tommie B. Phillips. Shirley Ann received her education in the Broward and Miami-Dade County Public Schools systems.
Shirley Ann was blessed with two handsome sons, Jeffrey Phillips (who preceded her in death) and Mark A. Carter.  She was an exceptional caregiver and dedicated her life loving and taking care of her children, family members, neighbors, and close friends. She was also known as the  candy lady in her neighborhood. She took excellent care of her sick son and mother until their deaths.
Shirley Ann was loving, nurturing, giving, and welcoming.  She enjoyed traveling (especially for family trips) and exploring life with her beloved sister-in-law/best friend Stephanie. She spent her time completing puzzles and watching soap operas. She was fond of baking cakes and cookies; and passed down her love for baking to her son Mark and her grandchildren, especially Marcus.  She was a sports lover and would be heard yelling "miss it miss it miss it miss it" to discourage the other team from winning a game.
Shirley Ann returned to her Heavenly home on March 25, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her loving mother, Mrs. Alice Phillips, son, Jeffrey Phillips, and siblings James Larry Phillips, Bernard Phillips, and Latricia Phillips.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Tommie B. Phillips; son, Mark A. Carter (Takia); four grandchildren: Markia Carter, Mark Carter, Jr., Mark Carter, III, and Marcus Carter; five siblings: Tarrie Ashley (Donna),  Alexander Phillips (Lea), Theresa Prosper (Henry), Thomas Phillips (Meisha), and Melissa Phillips; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Ann Phillips and Stephanie Phillips; three aunts, Elizabeth Ashley, Waldorf, Maryland; Betty Ashley, Hallandale, Florida, and Annie Ruth, Douglas, Georgia; two uncles, Isaiah Jordan and Bill Hardy; and a host of very dear cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
