His Life's Story

Wellington Curtis was born February 27, 1951 in West Palm Beach, Florida to the late Lois and George Curtis. He was the 4 ^th child of 13 siblings. One sibling, Eulyses preceded him in death. Wellington (Butch, Butchie, or Curtis as he was affectionately known by), was raised by his grandmother, Ilene Curtis Roberts and stepfather Alvin Roberts in West End, Grand Bahama, Bahamas along with one of his sisters, Laverne where they grew up in a Christian home. He received most of his formal education in West End, but as a teenager, he returned to Miami, Florida to continue his high school education and graduated from Miami Jackson Sr. High in 1970.

After high school Wellington returned to the Bahamas to live. He met and fell in love with a beautiful brown skin Christian women by the name of Martha Pinder (the daughter of the late Rev. Wellington & Verdell Pinder) whom he married December 17, 1972. To this union 4 handsome boys were born (Orenthol, Shefthol, Rosenthol and Leventhol). Due to strick immigration policies in the Bahamas, he was not allowed to continue living in the Bahamas. He applied for citizenship status but it was rejected despite being married to a Bahamian woman. This devasted him and he reluctantly returned to the U.S. in order to provide for his family. Once he settled in Miami, he later realized that being a U.S. citizen was a blessing, not a curse and the sky was the limit. He took advantage of the opportunity to further his education. He enrolled at Miami Dade College and received his associate degree. He then went on to Barry University and received his bachelor's degree in Business Administration. This was the role model that inspired his children to also take advantage of the educational opportunities available.  To them. He told them that he did not have the money to send them to college and encouraged them to go into the military in order to receive these benefits. They all did except for the last one, Leventhol who choose to go to college after high school instead of the military. He was proud of all his children's accomplishments.

Curtis accepted Christ at an early age and took the word of God seriously. He was a gifted man and when he speaks, one would listen in awe. His passion was to ensure that people from all walks of life are given the opportunity to experience the fullness and presence of Almighty God with their individual gifts and talent. His objectives were to occupy the pastoral office in ministry to bring the lost to Jesus our Messiah, and to build up and encourage those who are of the household of faith. Curtis' goal was to reach the lost globally for the cause of Jesus, the Messiah!

Curtis has been preaching since the age of twenty-two (22), an ordained deacon in churches, praise teams, and was a founding member, guitarist, and soloist, of the Chosen Few, Freeport Grand Bahama, 1974, and former member of the Six Trumpets, guitarist, Miami FL, 1969, under the leadership of the late Curtis McCoy. Listeners are often amazed at how God is using Curtis through his simple and pure yet riveting and inspiring voice. Curtis, as he's favorably called by many, had a voice that is often described as therapeutic, anointed, solemn but authoritative and powerful. Curtis' influences come mostly from the late Dr. Billy Graham, the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the late Rev. Dr. Charles Smith, Cat Island, Bahamas and his father-in-law, the late Rev. Dr. Wellington Pinder, Pinder's Point, Grand Bahama, Bahamas.

Curtis was happily married to Martha Pinder and is the proud father of four handsome sons and grandfather of 7, all of whom he loved. He is a retired supervisor of Homeland Security TSA.  Curtis is a family-oriented person while still having the flexibility to share the gospel, preaching, and teaching to all who would listen." His expository and exegesis' homilies are exceptional.

Curtis was ordained as a pastor by the late Rev. Dr. W.R. Rountree of New Mt. Pleasant MBC. He was the Founding Pastor and Teacher of Silver Blue Lakes Missionary Baptist Church, Inc. (1986) where he has been pastoring for 36 years . His last church fellowship was with the 1st Sunday Fellowship where Pastor Alberta Williams is the President and Pastor Leroy Blanding, Vice President.

Pastor Curtis passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 21, 2022. He will truly, truly be missed and will forever be in our hearts.

He leaves to cherish fond and loving memories in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife, Martha; children : Orenthol (Tashika) Tampa, Shefthol (Paulette) Miami, Rosenthol (South Dakota) and Leventhol (Crystal) Pompano Beach; grandchildren: Orenthol, Jr., Kendal, Taylar, Tyler, Ky'era, Anthoney and Aniya; siblings : Adel Marshall (Miami), Bennie Lee Burns (South Carolina), Laverne Farrington (Ft. Lauderdale), George Curtis (Miami), Thomas (Yvette) Curtis (Miami), Van Curtis (Miami), Joyce Woodard (Jacksonville), Deloris Murray (Miami), Jerome Curtis (Kissimee), Kenneth Curtis (Jacksonville), Anthony Curtis (Miami), Ilene Curtis (Miami), and Nathaniel Curtis (Miami); brothers and sisters-in-law ; Beryl and Norbert Cooper (South Miami); Michael & Stella Pinder, Peter and Joyce Pinder, Berthram and Cheryl Pinder, Mary and Kenneth Christie, Evelyn and Ron Dames, all of the Bahamas; and a host of other relatives including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.
