Obituary

Michael McCray, age 51, passed away peacefully at his home in Miami Gardens, FL, Thursday, November 18, 2021, after a long battle with chronic kidney disease. In Miami, Florida, Michael was born December 15, 1969, to Hugh Isaac "Jack" Davis, Sr., and Ruther May McCray (both now deceased).

Michael attended Miami-Dade County Public Schools, where he graduated from Miami Jackson Senior High. After that, he pursued a professional career with Publix Supermarket. During his 35-year tenure, he held numerous positions within the organization. From the entry-level role of front-end worker (bagboy), he started at 16-years-old - to several managerial roles, the most recent being Bakery Manager.

Michael was an avid football fan, both professional and collegiate. In his eyes, there were no teams greater than his beloved Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Hurricanes. He appreciated having heated debates with anyone who thought otherwise or said anything non-complimentary of his teams. Fishing was another one of his favorite pastimes. Both oceanside pier fishing or deep-sea fishing would make him so excited at the mere thought of casting his line into the water. The way he would light up and glow as he talked about that "legendary" catch that got away would have anyone believing he was a professional angler.

Michael is survived by his son Michael McCray, II. His sisters Sharon Rolle (Thomas) and Shuntan Davis-Singleton; his brothers Nolan Lyles, Hugh Davis, Jr. and Gary Welch; niece Ashley Saenz (Leonardo); nephew Aaron Rolle and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
