Merrick D. Patterson was born May 22, l960 in Victoria Jublee Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. Merrick and his parents, Gladyes and Arnold Patterson, resided in Withfield town in Jamaica.  He has two brothers, Jurlan (Jamaica) and David (Miami), and a sister, Andrea (Jamaica).  Merrick attended Maxfield Primary School and then Mackoo Pen all age school.  The Patterson siblings have remained close over the years.

In l998, he met Pauline Johnson walking down the street. He stuck up a conversation with her and they started dating.  At the time, Merrick had four children- a daughter from a previous marriage to Janet, named Merrika (Miami) and also three sons: Kirk (Miramar), Uhan (Miramar) and Merrick (Ft. Lauderdale).

Pauline and Merrick had their first son, Nicholas, in 2000, followed by Ryan in 2001 . They married in 2004. Eric, their third son, was born in 2007.

Merrick worked as a roofer for 10 years then joined the Cisco Company as a truck driver for 10 years. His last job was as a truck driver at the Port of Everglades. In every place of employment, he was a hard worker and a true member of the team. He loved his job and his co-workers. Merrick also loved a good party and his time out on the town. There was always time to drink with his friends, recalling good times.

Merrick died on May 7, 2022 following a 7 month coma as a result of a stroke. Pauline was a devoted wife to the end. She and her sons stood by Merrick and will always remember him with the greatest of affection.  In addition to his children and Pauline, he is survived by his brothers, David and Jurlan; his sister, Andrea; his cousin, Norman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
