Obituary

On April 6, 2022 Leslie Garfield Butcher, 86, entered into eternal rest at his home in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

Leslie Garfield Butcher, son of the late John and Hilda Butcher was born June 1, 1935 in Bunkers Hill, Jamaica.

As a young man, he learned his tailoring skills as an apprentice at Rallin Reid Taylor Shop. During tourist season he was a Bell Captain for many years at Good Hope Hotel.

In 1955 he met the love of his life, Mavis Pickersgill from Saint Mary at a Cricket Tournament in Trelawny. They wrote letters to each other for over a year before she decided to meet up with him two years later. They had their first daughter Pamela. Mavis moved to London in 1961. Leslie joined her a few years later. They got married and had their second daughter, Alyson. Mavis and Leslie bought their first home in Wembley and Val and   Pamela joined their Parents in London.

He worked at Rank Xerox several years and left because he did not get the opportunity to excel. He then went on to doing a course in electronics which led to his job installing emergency telephones on the Motor Way (Highway). He did that for many years before working at the String of Pearls Hotel at Wembley Stadium as an Assistant Manager where he coordinated special occasions such as the World Cup matches.

In 1983 they decided to move to the USA. He worked for United Airlines as a signal controller. Unfortunately for Leslie on his way to work several years later, he had a heart attack. He returned to United Airlines and worked light duty but his health deteriorated and he no longer was able to work.

Leslie started to do other little jobs such as chauffeuring for various clients but his health continued to deteriorate and it became too risky for him to work. He spent several years in retirement before sunset on April 6, 2022.

Leslie leaves behind his loving wife, Mavis Butcher, his children: Frederick, Pamela, Bradmond, Donna and he now joins his predeceased children Glenville and Alyson.
