James Edward Dames was born on January 11, 1943, to Norah Lee Miller and James Henry Dames, in Fresh Creek, Andros, Bahamas. He was one of 19 children.
Affectionately known as "Eddie", James migrated to Miami, Florida in 1959, to work as a skilled carpenter. He worked hard to support his family, both here and in the Bahamas.
James enjoyed being around his family and his friends. Whether it was sitting around, talking about the good ole days, or beating his friends in a game of dominoes, he truly enjoyed them.
James Dames, became a charter member of the New Way Fellowship Church in 1975, where he enjoyed singing in the Choir and the Male Chorus. He enjoyed his Sunday School class and the Mighty Men's Ministry. He loved the Lord.
James Dames leaves to cherish his memories, the love of his life, Mrs. Lydia Irene Jones Dames, his wife of 38 years.
Also left to cherish his memories are his Children: Edie Dames-Brazzel(Eric), and James Edward Dames.
His Grandchildren: Yashika Tribble (Earnest), Trenicia Brown, Lenora Dames, Meriem Mannings, Tameka Harris, and Alycia Worsley.
His Great-Grandchildren: D'Janae, I'Yanah, Maurice, Maddison, Mason, Travis, Khambrel, and Kymbella.
His Miami siblings: Allen Peterson, Elizabeth Simmons, Gary Surmons, Johann Sampson (Barry), Jeanette Florence, and Iva Mobley (Joseph).
His Bahamas siblings: Roston Dames, Marsha McGregor, Dr. Jacqueline King, and Petty Officer Kevin Dames
His oldest auntie: Gwendolyn Albury (Lester) of Nassau, Bahamas.
His Brothers-in-law: Dudley Jones (Lillian), Terrence Jones (Rev. Dr. Unay Jones), Charles Jones (Angie), Albert Jones (Shamricka), Larry Jones (Stephanie), John Julian Jones, Stanley Taylor, and Joseph Simmons (Heslyn).
His Sisters-in-law: Ida Simms (Chris), Lovely McIntosh (William), and Sheryl Cooper.
And a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
