Hermine Cowan Grant was born on May 15, 1939 in Castle Kelly, Jamaica to the late Viola Barnett and Caral Cowan. She was the fourth of five daughters.

Hermine was educated at St. Georges school and    upon graduation she remained in this small rural town until she found her way to Jamaica's capital of Kingston in search of work. She made it to the United States in 1974.

Hermine loved music and dancing. She was feisty and always loved a good joke. She was kindhearted to others and always shared what little she had. To meet her was to eventually become her friend.

Hermine leaves behind to cherish her memory five sons: Allan of Miami, FL, Anthony of Hampton GA, Patrick of NY, Blaine of Miami, and Newton of    Georgia. She also leaves behind three sisters: Joyce   of Birmingham UK, Cynthia of Miami, FL, and Hazel (Merle) of London UK; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews and special friends.
