On February 14, 1928 on Valentine's Day, in Manchester, Jamaica, Clifford and Rebecca Anderson were blessed with the fifth of ten children, a baby girl, named Esmie Gwendolyn Anderson. For this couple, Esmie was a picture of ebony beauty and sunny smiles which she maintained throughout her ninety-three years.

Aunt Esmie was baptized in the Anglican Church where she kept the Faith and served the Lord with reverence.  However, because of relocation, she later worshipped with the Pentecostal movement. As an adolescent, she was an avid church member who participated in the Sunday School Ministry with her late Aunt Emma Edwards as her spiritual guide. Aunt Esmie was a musical talent; a strong soprano, she played the organ for her Sunday schoolers and church events.

Aunt Esmie obtained her education at Snowdon All Age School in Manchester, Jamaica and Vocational training in both Jamaica and the U.S.A. She garnered sewing skills which she instilled in her daughters. With her strong culinary skills, she worked as a housekeeper and later as a dietary aide at the local hospitals before migrating to the U.S.A in 1981. Here, she furthered her studies to become a Certified Nursing Assistant/Homemaker. Ms. Esmie, Aunt Esmie or Grandma was a blessing to her family, relatives, clients and friends. She raised and nurtured all children who came to her humble home. Her clients considered her their "Mary Seacole" because of her expertise in personal care and her compassionate gentle nature, tinged with her special sense of humor.

According to God's plan, Esmie Anderson married Stainton Williams, her devoted partner of seventy years. Their union produced four children.

On Sunday, September 12, 2021, Aunt Esmie, mother extraordinaire, went home to be with her Lord. Sweet memories of her life will always be remembered by her husband Stainton; daughters Pearline Anderson, Beverly Whyte, Blossome McLaughlin-Allen and Joan Williams; sisters Myrtle South and Daisy Dixon;  sons-in-law Nymrod, Hernando and Herbert; grand-children Debbie, Janiene, Tamieka, Schoniel, Moya, Tinashea, Rochelle, and Shannon; a grand total of ten great grandchildren and a host of loving nieces and nephews. She was richly blessed throughout her years.
