Obituary

Roosevelt Walker was born on June 17, 1926, in Fitzgerald,   Georgia to the late Alva and Rosa Walker. He attended public school in Ben Hill County, Georgia where he enjoyed country living with a large family. He was affectionately known as RV, Brother Walker, and the history teacher as he loved to talk about the "old days," tell jokes, attend church, and spend time with family and friends.

In 1945 Roosevelt was drafted into the United States Navy during World War II.  After basic training in Maryland, he was stationed on the USS Taluga, a cargo ship that provided support and supplies to other ships in the Pacific Ocean. He proudly served his country with honor, as the Navy provided him a once in a lifetime opportunity to see places that most people only read about in books. He especially enjoyed spending time in Shanghai, China. After serving in the military, he worked for Food Fair, Florida East Coast Railroad, and Port Everglades, where he retired.

Roosevelt was a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon, Finance Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and prayer warrior in Liberty City and Overtown. Years later, he joined the Pembroke Park Church of Christ.

On December 16, 2000, Roosevelt married Maggie Baker Walker; and as such, they enjoyed 21 years of marital bliss.
