On a beautiful Sunday morning, July 24, 1977, a handsome bouncing baby boy was born to Mauline Gayle and Sydney Smith, in Montego Bay, St. James,  Jamaica. We named him Carlington Fernando D. Smith. His sister couldn't say Carlington so, any questions or concerns she had, she would tell me, referring to him as the Bobby. That's why he is affectionally called (Bobby). At the age of 3 Bobby and his siblings migrated to the U.S. to be with his mother and grandmother.

Carlington attended sabbath school at Maranatha Seventh Day Adventist Church in Carol City with his parent and siblings.

Carlington received his education within the Miami-Dade County Public School System where he attended Shadowlawn Pre-K, Allapattah Elementary and Carol City Middle. Then went on to Carol City Sr. High where he excelled in Math and played Football. Carlington graduated from Carol City Sr. High. He was offered a full scholarship for football and went to Mesabi College in Minnesota. Carlington was a loving, caring, and compassionate person. He always made sure his nephews, and uncle hair was properly groomed.

Carlington was the most independent child. I know his siblings would agree that he gave me the least resistance as a child.  He worked as a barber from home as a teenager, then as a health caregiver. He then decided he wanted to be an Air conditioning/refrigeration expert, so he went to school for that and became a Journeyman. But still Bobby wanted to do more and be more. He aspired to realize his best self. Looking for a change he decided to take a chance and moved to Maryland where he had cousins. Boris, Bobby older cousins connected him with a company, Southern Management where he was able to secure a position. Over the years he made many friends. He loved his job. He decided to further his education to become an engineer at which he was successful.

He also was a good cook and liked to entertain. He always had a big laugh and an infectious smile, a great sense of humor. He loved life and always enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Moving back to Florida and setting up a business was in his future plan, but that dream won't be realized.

On September 14, 2021, Carlington Fernando D. Smith departed from us under unknow circumstances. He is now reunited with his parent, grandparents and host of family and friends that has been waiting for him to gain his wings.
