Benjamin "Busta" Hixson, age 83, of Miami Gardens, Florida, transitioned on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.  He was the fifth-born of nine children to the late Tullie and Jessie Lou Hixson.

Benjamin married Bettye Joyce Dozier (deceased) and relocated to Miami, Florida.  To this union Renee and Wenda Claire were born. Benjamin later married Betty Lou Barkley (over 40 years) and with this union gained a daughter, Nakia Myers.

Benjamin's career path included Calloway's Chicken Farm, Pine Mountain, Georgia, Eastern Airlines, Hialeah, Florida for 26 years and final retirement with Dade County Public Schools (Lake Stevens Middle School) Miami-Dade County, Florida.  Additionally, he was a prolific gardener and had a thriving landscaping business, Hixson Lawn and Tree Service.

Benjamin was wise and gave sound advice.  He cared deeply for his family and friends. He will surely be missed and remembered.

Hospitality was his middle name! He had a passion for cooking and gardening.  His yard was always well-groomed, with beautiful plants and trees. He created a sanctuary in the back yard for his collection of Staghorn Ferns, Palm Trees, Aloe Plants, Collard Greens, Tomatoes and Hot Pepper Plants. He shared them with his neighbors, friends, or anyone freely.  Just be prepared for the lengthy explanation about how he grew it. "He was quite the talker!"

Benjamin got up with the chickens! Breakfast was ready at 6:00 AM daily and dinner was complete by Noon!  We just must speak of his famous prepared dishes -Juicy Sweet Potatoes Cobbler, home grown Collards and flavorful Pork Souse.

Dad was well informed on the political scene.  He absolutely absorbed all the current political and world news, via CNN and MSNBC.  Not to forget The Western Channel.

He leaves behind his wife of 40 years Betty Lou Hixson, three daughters: Renee, Wenda Claire of Atlanta, Georgia; Nakia (Sandra) of Miami Dade, Florida and god-son Jayden; six grandchildren: Kysha, Tawanna, Katrina, Roger, Rainesha and Jaydin; (11) great-grandchildren; Terrance, Terron, Brock, Nyla, King, Dakota, Phoenix, Tianna, Charleigh, Cumberlynn and Rayvn.

He is preceded in death by, sister Virginia Hancock Willis (Ginger), and brother Ellison Hixson (Georgia-Boy).  Six siblings: Tullie Hixson Jr., Los Angeles, CA., Gertrude Williams, Johnnie Williams, Sarasota, FL, Terri Edwards, Atlanta GA, Bose Hixson, Jerry Hixson (Phyllis) of Miami Gardens, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
